“Em… Should i open this Email?”
We all ask this question when we are being alerted of a new mail.
Now, consider a situation whereby that recipient is a potential customer or even a sponsor, the answer to that question could really determine your revenue growth.
“To reply, or not to reply?”
What do you think the answer will be? What next action do you think your audience will take? So, obviously, we want the answer to be “reply.”
Check out my write-up sometime ago on TIPS I personally recommend to help improve Targeted Email marketing.
The following are Tips on how your Emails should be Structured:
Table of Contents
1. Subject Line
Subject Lines should be short and inviting. Take a look at some samples that our Email Marketers use Abule Graphics:
- Ideas for [thing that’s important to them]
- Question about [recent trigger event].
- Question about [goal they have].
- Thoughts about [title of blog post].
- Have you considered [thought / recommendation]?
Remember to avoid spammy words like:
- Final
- Reminder
- Sale
- Tempting
- Specials
- Complimentary
- Help
- Donation
- Don’t
- Exciting
Check out a post on Campaign Monitor for more tips on Subject lines
2. Opening Lines:
I recommend you always start your opening with a touch about them. The following are some examples:
- I noticed you …
- I loved your post on …
- Congratulations on …
3. Main content:
Try asking a questions like:
- Would you like to improve your strategy?
- Is [benefit to them] a priority for your business right now?
- Do you have unanswered questions about [topic]?
This goes a long way to connect you to your prospect.
4. Conclusion
This is very crucial as it will move your prospects to make an action.
Try ending with one of these questions to prompt a definitive reply:
- What is your schedule like to talk?
- Have you given any additional thought to the proposal?
- Let me know what makes sense as a next step, if any?
- Do you have any more questions I can clear up?
- If you aren’t interested, do I remove you from our database?
5. Signature
Signatures help your audience have a FIRST-HAND information about you.
The following are tips on how your signature should be structured:
- Keep it short, use either plain black and white text or subtle colors that align with the company’s branding.
- Include a phone number as contact information. Note to self: an email address is completely redundant.
- Don’t copy and paste an image into the signature.
- And please, please don’t use a corny quote.
- Don’t copy and paste an image into the signature.
- Keep it short and simple.
- Attaching a phone number is recommended.
- Include a link to a professional online profile (Linkedin preferably).
I strongly recommend you make use of Microsoft Outlook for your Emails. Click for tips on how you can configure your footer for outlook
